PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (AP) — Tiger Woods has a solution to long putters – make them no longer than the shortest club in the bag. Woods said Tuesday at the Pebble Beach National Pro-Am he has “never been a fan” of long putters that players either anchor into their belly or the broom-style putters that are pressed against the chest. Golf and business

Why golfers get ahead

IN A recent Dilbert cartoon, the pointy-haired boss asks: “Who wants to hear about my golf game?” One of his underlings replies: “Maybe someone with locked-in syndrome who doesn’t get any visitors.”
Golfers must constantly contend with two pernicious, false and yet widespread beliefs. First, that golf is boring. Second, that businesspeople who play it are all weasels who plot fraudulent deals between shots. Read More

The Plane Truth Graeme Bailey is introduced to the Plane Truth, a new teaching method that is emerging as the real holy grail for golf swings

December 10, 2011
By

So what is the Plane Truth? It was devised by leading coach Jim Hardy – who published his first instruction on the new technique in 2005.

Hardy, who has been teaching golf for nearly half a century, came to the conclusion that all golf swings are governed by two fundamentals rather than just one.

“The point of this is not to make your swing pretty, it is to make it work.”
Tom Godwin Quotes of the week

So basically the premise is that every golfer in the world is put into just two categories of swing – a One-planer or Two-planer. Read More

Get to know SwingFix: Quick, affordable online video golf instruction

December 10, 2011
By

By Brandon Tucker: worldgolf.com
Most golf lessons at top schools have had some element of video analysis for awhile now. In the last couple years, I’ve had lessons that include a video component emailed to you afterwards, like at the Kapalua Academy on Maui and most recently at the David Leadbetter Academy at PGA National Resort and Spa.

New technology is helping the “video lesson wherever you go” take another jump. Yesterday, I took my first SwingFix lesson. It’s an online instruction platform that allows you to upload your swing and have it analyzed by an instructor remotely with about a day’s turnaround for $29.99.

It’s been 26 official events without a win for Tiger Woods on the PGA Tour. This is the same golfer that once went on one stretch of winning 7-of-11 majors. Woods, who is hosting the Chevron World Challenge this weekend in Thousand Oaks, California, shot a three-under 63 and trails first round leader, K.J. Choi, by three shots heading into Friday’s play. And What Not To—Stores Are Full of Dumb Gifts He or She Will Never Use; Why a Sweater Is Better

Before veering off onto tangents about why most golf gifts fail, let me first affirm that choosing a good golf gift is not hopeless. A nice golf sweater usually works. Who doesn’t want a nice sweater for Christmas, or whatever the winter holiday may be? A series of 40 lessons, near home, with Hank Haney? That’s something any golfer would love. A GPS or laser range-finding device? Check. An all-expenses-paid golf and spa vacation with a loved one to Los Cabos, Mexico? Read More

McIlroy: The rise of golf’s new superman?

December 10, 2011
By

By Tom McGowan, CNN

(CNN) — In April, a dejected Rory McIlroy slumped away from the well-manicured Augusta National golf course after suffering one of the most dramatic final-round collapses in the sport’s history.

Despite starting the day as the dominant force and with a four-shot lead at the prestigious Masters, nerves and neuroses combined in the Atlanta sunshine to see him drop six strokes in three holes on the back nine on his way to an eight-over-par 80. Read More
